Fever...How to bring it down naturally

We all know that fever is the body's way of dealing with illness. So while it's not necessarily a bad thing and something we should avoid, there are times when it gets a bit too high and can be dangerous, especially for little ones. You can try to bring down the fever with natural essential oils instead of grabbing the Tylenol or Motrin.

Many users of essential oils have wonderful success with using peppermint to bring down a fever. Adding lavender is even better, and can bring calmness to the person suffering which can always help someone who is ill.

Here are some ways you can do it...

  • Dilute it in V-6 oil or olive oil and apply to the feet. You may not need to dilute it, although with little ones especially it helps to dilute it first to see how they do with it. This seems to be the most popular method, and you can add a drop or two of lavender as stated above.
  • Put 2-4 drops in a bowl of lukewarm water and sponge bath around the abdomen and neck.
  • Put a drop in a cup of hot water or herbal tea and drink it.

Peppermint is one of those essential oils that is helpful for many common ailments, such as headache, upset stomach, respiratory issues, tiredness, bad breath and even hunger. Make sure you have a bottle of peppermint oil on hand, and you might be able to avoid many other over the counter drugs.

Our little violinists!

I have loved homeschooling even more than I thought I would. Teaching Julianna to read was just amazing to me, to think of how the Lord has created their minds with the ability to learn so many things. To see the whole process from the start is just so precious. Now, doing school with all three of them involved just adds to the fun. Thomas loves when we do his special "school time" learning his letter sounds and colors. Of course his favorite part is aggressively poking out all of the colored pencil puzzle pieces at the end. (Such a boy)

Another part of our homeschooling this year has been teaching the girls violin, which they absolutely love! We are using this cute little book as a starter book, and I have a couple more in their collection. http://www.sheetmusicplus.com/title/Musicland-Violin-Book-1/4344426 We shoot for practicing 3 times a week for 30 minutes, and one day a week they have free time with violin while I spend time with Thomas. We recently purchased a little plastic violin that plays music for Thomas, and he is just so excited. So here is a picture of our little violinists....

They can't wait to play for family worship with Mommy!

Thinking outside of the box...or toy chest rather

I love finding older pieces of furniture, sanding them, fixing them up and then painting them! Someone was just giving away this toy chest for free. It was older, and had an older design painted on it with some of the paint wearing off. So, I sanded it and repainted it with a flower garden. I added large polka dots to the sides and stripes to the front. A customer ended up purchasing it as a birthday gift for their niece Kendall-which I thought was a wonderful gift idea.

So I encourage you to think outside of the box. You might have an older piece of furniture that you are getting rid of. Is it possible that just a few hours or one day of refinishing and painting could turn that old piece into a piece that you absolutely love? If you would like me to do a custom piece for you, contact me, and we can think of the different ideas and possibilities.

Gift Idea....Name Plaques, Birth Plaques and Monogram Sets

Name plaques have been one of my most popular items with customers. They are a wonderful gift idea for many different occasions: Birthdays, Christmas, Baby Showers, New Babies, Decorating a new room, etc. Recently, a returning customer and realtor ordered a name plaque for her clients who were buying their first home. She found out the colors of their little one year old girl's room, and will give them the gift at closing. I thought this was a very clever idea. A custom name plaque is an inexpensive way to show someone you care and add that extra special touch to their room. Now, remember, these are custom items, so don't just think they are for children. I can paint the background in the colors that would accommodate your living room or kitchen and you can add your family name, a favorite Bible verse or quote. The design is totally up to you.

Here is the plaque I made for the realtor. She told me that the little girl's room was lilac and yellow, and this is what I designed.

Here are some other examples of name plaques I have painted in the past...

Here are examples of birth certificate plaques, another popular gift idea for welcoming a new baby into the world...

Also, Monogram Sets look beautiful above a crib or bed in a child's bedroom....

Introduction to my artwork... Previous murals, canvas art and more

 Friday, November 23, 2012

I thought I would share the different types of artwork I have done in the past. Here are some examples for you to see.

This client picked out a jungle themed bedding, and I painted murals to match it.

This is a canvas wall hanging that I painted.

I painted many stretched canvas growth charts like these. Clients liked these because they hang much nicer on the wall then most other hanging growth charts that bend, and it is a memoir that they can keep forever by taking out the staples and rolling it up.

I also paint sets of stretched canvas painting. The set of three looks really sweet above a crib.

Name plaques were popular as well as it was an inexpensive way to add personalization and a coordinating piece of art to a room.

I also did many rooms with different faux brick and stone. This room was a castle room for a little boy.

I painted the large oil painting above the bed to match the other oil painting that they had gotten on a vacation once.

This was a room with scripture painted here and there on top of a faux finish.

This large 25 ft. canvas mural was painted for an Italian Market called Caggiano's on Long Island, NY.

This is another canvas mural painted for Caggiano's...a nice little Tuscan scene.

I also painted in an Italian restaurant called Pomodorino's on Long Island. This was above the dessert area.

This was a large great room that I faux finished. I think the ceiling was 20 ft. high...That's when I realized that I would be sticking to normal ceilings from then on. I did a lot of praying on that job!
